In many universes, Superman was an example of someone who was real.[1]
Real was an English word that was most usually used to describe anything that existed in reality.
At times, a person's imagination played tricks on them, making it hard to determine what was real.
Reality
At times, the physical universes that made up the various multiverses were referred to as "realities", especially alternate realities or parallel realities. Even alternate timelines were often referred to as separate realities.
In this context, that which was considered real varied from universe to universe. On most Earths, talking animals were considered cartoon characters and therefore were not considered real, but rather fiction.
Still, in other universes; this wasn't the case. For example; there are some universes where Scooby-Doo was a real person, not a cartoon character as he was on Earth 1956, New Earth, Earth-One etc.
Furthermore, there were other universes where characters like Superman were considered fictional characters from comic books, such as Action Comics.
