Signs could be used for a variety of purposes, such as advertisement or for the directing of traffic.
For example, a sign that said "bus stop" on it was used to communicate with people the place that they should wait for a bus.
Other traffic-related signs, such as one that says "dead end," was a sign that was meant to warn drivers that the street or highway was coming to an end.
History
Earth 1956
Circa 1976, there was a road sign in Cave County that served as an advertisement for Fairyland Caves.[3]
In 1977, Jody and Beth were at an intersection on Main Street, standing next to a bus stop sign. This was because Beth was waiting for a bus, but Jody was not, as she chose hitchhiking instead. She lived to regret that however.[4]
The video arcade game called Stay on the Road had some road signs in it.[5]
