Rapping referred to spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics, which was often associated with hip hop music. The word had its' roots in 1960s African-American slang, which meant "to converse." The term could have also referred to striking something with a series of hard blows.
History
Earth-1A
When Noah Tall and Twisty were attempting to kidnap the Balunians from Marvin's backyard, Twisty asked how they are going to get the Krim family to get out of the flying saucer. Tall told him that as soon as they get rid of Robin (who was acting as their personal bodyguard), they would rap on the saucer. Twisty then asked him what they would rap about. He then tells him he meant "rap on it with our knuckles, you knothead!"[2]
After defeating it, Aquaman has a rap session with a yellow lagoon creature.[3]
