Morse code was a method of transmitting messages as a series of on-off tones.
An S.O.S. was a radio transmitted distress signal, which was tapped out in morse code.

Marvin once suggested that the Krim family may use their abilities to make an object tap out a message in code.[1]
While Colonel Wilcox was monitoring Doctor Hiram Gulliver's microwave miniaturization beams using a frequency filter, he realized there was another message coming through the signal, and even his best decoders couldn't determine what it was, they only knew that it wasn't Morse code.[2]
